How To Make Chana Dal Fry (Dal Tadka)
Drain out water from the dal. Keep cooker on high heat and put the dal. Add 1 liter of water, salt & haldi to it. Close the cooker and at the first whistle reduce heat to low and cook for 7-8 minutes more.
Now put off gas and allow pressure to subside.
In the meantime we will prepare the tadka or tempering for the dal on another burner.
Keep kadhai/wok on medium heat, add the desi ghee and let it get hot.
Now add the hing, stir it a bit & add the onions. Saute for a minute and add the garlic & ginger. Saute this for about 1/2 a minute and add the spices. Reduce gas to low and saute till the masala turns brown.
Add the tomatoes and stir cook till they turn soft. While the tomatoes are cooking open the cooker and check the dal. It should be soft. Keep heat on medium.
Once the tomatoes have turned soft the tadka is ready. Add the dal & cilantro to it now. Stir well and let cook on medium heat till the dal becomes thicker and merges with the water.
Transfer to a bowl and garnish with more cilantro.
