What is Kala Namak?Kala Namak is Indian black salt popularly known as Himalayan pink salt. It is obtained from salt mountains and mines in Pakistan.
It is a dark brown to deep purple colored rock which when ground turns to a grayish to pink to a deep pink color. It has a sulfurous odor much like that of rotten eggs. It is use in many Ayurvedic medicines especially those used to treat digestive issues. In Ayurveda kala namak is mainly used to correct digestive diseases. It contains 94 trace minerals. Some Health Benefits Of Kala NamakSince it contains iron it helps to combat anemia. It burns fat, is antacid, anti flatulent, & carminative, a digestive stimulant, reduces acidity, gas, bloating & abdominal pain. It clears skin diseases as well.
Because of its digestive stimulating property it not only improves appetite it also balances the natural acids of the stomach and stimulates bile production thereby also helping in digesting food and improving digestion. Lemon water to which a little black salt has been added helps to reduce intestinal gas and flatulence, and heaviness after a meal. It is both hematinic (inceases hemoglobin levels) and hematogenic (helps in production of red blood cells). If you are taking table salt for the iodine benefits you can use 1/2 table salt & half kala namak to get the benefits of both as kala namak too contains iodine but in a lesser amount. Because of its mineral content it is healthier than table salt and can be used in place of it. |
